Leadership is one thing that makes huge impact on employee satisfaction. Employees are happier when they are led especially by their own bosses. That’s why people prefer to choose a good boss over a little bit more salary. Money is something but not everything to everyone, every time. Sadly, some companies do not understand this fact. Therefore, they promote the wrong person to wrong position. This finally breaks good people down and they leave “heart-broken”. The worst thing to hear is bosses saying they don’t care people leaving. No! It’s not good! We have to care for staff. We have to take extra care if good people are leaving the organization.
Let me propose this 4-rule kit for you;
1. Employees with high motivation and high skills – Promote
2. Employees with less skills and high motivation – Train
3. Employees with high skills and less motivation – Motivate
4. Employees with no motivation and skills – Terminate
One may think that the 4th rule is too harsh. But it’s not. However, termination has to be always the last thing. People can be trained and developed at least if they have some motivation to learn and grow. If not, it is merely impossible to do it successfully, or it might take too long to change those people. Therefore, it is worthier to give opportunities for those others who have been waiting for a chance for years.
